yellow ochre mammoth

Conte crayon an paper

56cm x 48cm

Painted in a style reminiscent of prehistoric cave art, maybe a relic from the last ice age. The heart symbolises the love they have for the animal and serves as a target for spears. We use to use the entire slain animal. Bones for tools and shelter supports eat the meat and used its skin for coverings in a similar to which the mammoth had. The white is chalk, the black is charcoal, and the yellow is ochre, a naturally found pigment and the red of the heart that could be blood.
