Whelm
60 x 60 cm
acrylic & pencil on canvas
This is for when it all gets too much. We all have those moments. Loosing track of the everyday focus which keeps us sane. To stop and think and rest a little, a calmness of the day. However, woe betide if you delve too deeply, to think of what is beyond an existence which can only be guessed at with vague similes, which in turn only act as a safety harness to prevent unreturnable absorption into all which is there. We think, and it is a luxury but with that is no comprehension. More than we can possibly know. Our cleverness to see through matter into its construction but we must realise that we are that to. We like to define who and what we are but are we really here, a time, a space, a reason.
Yes, we can be overwhelmed when there is just too much to know and as an opposite we can be underwhelmed when we know enough already to make a judgement of disappointment. Whelm is the middle ground, the constant state, the overriding feeling of unstable build up just waiting to crash down. Our constant pursuit of knowledge only makes matters worse.
